Beginner piano lessons start on the rudimentary exercises for fingers, and the basics of reading music notes, on a step by step approach. It is a very good idea to start a child on a piano, even if he/she is going to pursue a musical career on another instrument, since the understanding of the piano allows a person to better understand music in general.
